Internet - Logging into your router
Logging into your router
*IF YOU HAVE A ROUTER FROM HURONTEL OR HAVE WIFI SERVICE MANAGED BY HURONTEL PLEASE CALL US FOR ASSISTANCE IN CHANGING WIFI SETTINGS*
Connecting to the router
Do this either by plugging in to the router using a computer, or by connecting to the wireless network of your router. If you are trying to find your wifi password, you will likely need to connect an Ethernet cord to get a connection to the router.
To connect using Ethernet:
-
Plug an Ethernet (Cat5 or similar) cable into one of the numbered ports on the back of your router.
-
Plug the other end of the cable into the computer if it has an Ethernet port on it, not all do.
To connect using wifi on Windows:
-
Select the Network icon (
or
) or in the notification area near the time/date.
-
In the list of networks, choose the network that you want to connect to, and then select Connect.
-
Type the security key (often called the password).
-
Follow additional instructions if there are any.
To connect using wifi on Apple MacOS:
-
Click the Wi-Fi menu icon
and select your Wi-Fi network from the list of available networks.
-
If prompted, enter the password for your Wi-Fi network.
-
Check "Remember this network" to have your Mac automatically join your home network.
If neither of these connection methods are working for you then a reset of the router may be necessary to continue. This would reset the wifi to factory settings and allow you to connect with the default wifi password or it may become an open wifi network without a password.
NOTE: FACTORY RESETTING YOUR ROUTER WILL RESTORE IT TO ITS DEFAULT SETTINGS AND WILL NEED TO BE PROGRAMMED AGAIN IN ORDER TO WORK. PLEASE CONTACT INTERNET SUPPORT IF YOU NEED YOUR CONNECTION SETTINGS. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND FACTORY RESETS UNLESS USED AS A LAST RESORT.
Logging into the router
Now that you are connected to the router, log into the router by accessing the web interface. This varies from router to router, but in general it starts by opening a browser (Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, etc.) and then typing into the address bar at the top. What you need to type depends on your router.
Below is a list of common router brands and their default IP address (Router: example.ip.address.here). Try entering these IPs into your address bar at the top and then hit Enter on your keyboard.
Dlink: 192.168.0.1
Belkin: 192.168.2.1
Most other routers: 192.168.1.1
If you are on a login page then you have correctly found the IP of the router. Enter the username and password to access your router settings at this time if you know it. It would have been set during the initial router setup. If you do not know it, try some of the default values below.

If none of the above IP addresses take you to your router login page, try the following:
On Windows:
-
Right click on the Windows Start button
-
Select Command Prompt
-
Type the following command into the black command prompt window and press Enter on your keyboard (it is ready for you to type when it opens): ipconfig
-
Now scroll up or down through the information it provided and look for the Default Gateway
-
Copy the number from beside the Default Gateway into a browser (Firefox, Google Chrome, etc) to access the router login
On Apple MacOS:
- Open System Preferences from the Apple menu
- Click on “Network” preferences under the ‘Internet & Wireless’ section
- Select “Wi-Fi” or whatever network interface you are connected through and click on the “Advanced” button in the lower right corner
- Click on the “TCP/IP” tab from the top choices
- The routers IP address is the numerical address next to “Router:” and will look something like: 192.168.1.1
If you were successful in logging into the router then you should now be seeing a summary or setup page. To continue from here, navigate through the on-screen router menus or if you are unfamiliar with it then look to your router manual for direction.
If none of the above username and password combinations are correct for your router, you may have to reset the router to factory default in order to log in with the default credentials. If you do reset, you can go back to the beginning of the document to try again.
NOTE: RESETTING YOUR ROUTER WILL WIPE ALL SETTINGS ON IT AND WILL DISCONNECT YOUR INTERNET UNTIL THE ROUTER IS SET UP AGAIN.
