Connectivity – Windows does not have a valid IP configuration
(Windows XP, 7, 8, 10)
The error message "Windows does not have a valid IP configuration" occurs when your Windows computer was unable to get an IP address from your router. This is normally an automatic process called 'DHCP' (dynamic host configuration protocol) - your device will get an IP address and all other needed information to connect automatically, but if it fails and rebooting your router does not fix the problem, the steps below should. If you are using HuronTel internet service without a router or managed wifi, then this message will be normal and additional steps will be needed to set up the connection.
1. Click on the search box on the taskbar, type cmd then right-click Command prompt (or cmd.exe), and then select Run as administrator > Yes.
2. At the command prompt, try the following commands, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:
- Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
- Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
- Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
3. If this does not fix your issue and you suspect your internet could be down, please call HuronTel at 519-395-3800 x2 for internet support.
