HuronTel Services During a Power Outage

• Fibre to the Home (FTTH):
HuronTel FTTH is the most advanced telecommunications infrastructure available. The fibre service at your home consists of 2 components.
The ONT and the Power Supply (see pictures below). Together they connect your Internet, TV and Telephone services.

You may have one of the two ONT's (Optical Networking Terminals) shown below.

• Battery Backup information below:
1) AC light - Green light when receiving power. Orange light when no power.
2) OUTPUT light - Green light should always be lit.
3) BATTERY light - If there is a Battery issue, or it is recharging it will be lit red.

When the power goes out, the Power Supply provides up to 8 hours of reserve battery power and your services will continue un-interrupted. On rare occasions, when the power is out longer and the battery is drained, services will no long be available UNLESS you connect the Power Supply to your generator.

CAUTION:
If you choose to plug the ONT into a generator you assume all risks & liability to yourself and the equipment. If you damage the equipment due to use of a generator you will be charged for replacing the equipment. Check with your generator manufacturer.

Fibre to the Node (FTTN)
HuronTel FTTN is a similar service to FTTH.
FTTN utilizes the existing copper cable from your home to a Fibre Node on the street. The service is provided by a VDSL modem. This modem connects your Internet and TV services. In the event of a power failure, TV & Internet services will no longer be available UNLESS you connect the VDSL modem to your generator.

CAUTION:
If you choose to plug the ONT into a generator you assume all risks & liability to yourself and the equipment. If you damage the equipment due to use of a generator you will be charged for replacing the equipment. Check with your generator manufacturer.

Your telephone service will NOT be interrupted as it does not depend on the VDSL modem (pictured below).

IMPORTANT: If you have a telephone that uses AC power, it will not work in a power outage.
You should have a telephone on hand that does not require AC if you wish to use your service in a power outage.
