Garlic

Garlic does best when planted, single bulbs at a time, in September. The picture on the left is garlic plants as of May 7/99 that was planted last fall. Notice the mulch around the plants, it helps keep the weeds down, moisture in the soil and promotes the growth of large heads of garlic, much to the joy of our friends who visit. It will be ready to be harvested by August....and used generously in favourite dishes and garnishes like Pesto and Salsa sauce.
If kept in a cool, dark place garlic will keep for months. We keep ours hanging in our basement. Last falls harvest became mostly unusable in March.
