A Victim's Story
On Thursday, January 28, 1993 our daughter Sherry and her husband were on their way to the hospital with their 3 year old child who was sick. On their way, there was an accident involving the young couple and a DRUNK DRIVER! No one was seriously hurt except our daughter Sherry. Sherry was riding in the back seat with their son and had her seat belt on when they were hit on their side of the road.
Sherry sustained multiple injuries including internal bleeding and serious head injury. She was taken to London Hospital where her family had to wait and watch over someone they couldn't even recognize as their own for 5 days. After numerous trips to the operating room and 27 units of blood to try to replace her own, the doctors declared her brain dead. Sherry was 27 years old, the mother of two young children and 6 months pregnant with a third child.
On February 2, 1993, Sherry's life and that of her unborn child ended, leaving a devastated family and many friends to ask why.
The outcome of the court case was that the 42 year old woman driving the other vehicle with over three times the legal limit was suspended from driving for 1 year and was sentenced to 5 months in jail, of which she would only have to serve one-third of the time or about 5 weeks. Is this justice? We don't think so!
A slap on the wrist for murdering a young mother and baby. Leaving a husband and two children without a wife and a mother, and a family without a daughter and a sister?
January 28 is Sherry's dad's birthday. February 4 is Sherry's daughter's birthday. Sherry's dad has never celebrated a birthday since.
Sherry is missed so much every day but especially on holidays and special occasions by parents, brother, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends.
