HuronTel Internet service has a feature - called "roaming" - which allows you to connect to the Internet from almost anywhere when traveling throughout Canada.
For instance, if you live in Goderich and visit a cousin in Toronto, you can still connect to browse the Web, check mail and peruse your favourite webpage. All you have to do is set up a new dialup connection (or modify your existing dialup connection settings) on your computer.
If you travel regularly across Canada with a laptop computer, you can take advantage of the roaming facility, an easy way to connect across Canada.
There is a fee for using a Roaming Number. Hurontel provides a list of "roaming" numbers across Canada at a surcharge of $5.00 for the first time you connect to any one of these numbers in a given month. Hours will be added to your existing account at a surcharge of 50 cents/hour. (Remember to check the Point of Presence numbers first.)
Note: All HuronTel service dialup locations support 56 Kbps access.
Changing your Internet settings for roaming
To dialup to the “roaming” service from someplace other than your usual location, you must change the settings that allow you to connect to the Internet.
In your dial-up connection settings, you will need to adjust the phone number. Be sure to take note of the original number so you can change it back when you return home. If you are dialing from a hotel or a pbx, you may have to dial a number to connect to an outside line (such as ‘9'). If you need to dial any numbers to access an outside line, enter them in the phone number settings for the dial-up connection, followed by a comma “,” then the number listed below that is local to where you are calling from. Note: some hotels charge a nominal fee for local calls, which will be added to your hotel room charges.
In your dial-up connection settings, you will also need to change the username by adding the sequence “idm/cni/” in advance of your username (we call this a prefix). For instance, if your username is “hurontel”, then you will need to change it to “idm/cni/hurontel”. Ensure all letters are in lowercase. Without this prefix you will you will not be able to connect.

Hurontel offers a number of local dialup points of presence that do not require you to make modifications to your settings other than the dial access number. There are no additional charges for accessing from these locations.
