ACW FTTN ULTRA BROADBAND INITIATIVE
and the
ACW WIRELESS ULTRA BROADBAND INITIATIVE.

UPDATE

April 25th, 2017

In January, HuronTel announced that it has been approved for Federal and Provincial Funding under the Small Communities Fund for a two-part Rural Broadband Initiative.

The Initiative consists of the ACW FTTN ULTRA BROADBAND INITIATIVE and the ACW WIRELESS ULTRA BROADBAND INITIATIVE.

The ACW FTTN ULTRA BROADBAND INITIATIVE (green) is designed to service an area of 450 underserved homes along the Lake Huron Shoreline between Amberley and Port Albert, Ontario. HuronTel intends to lever its existing 10Gbps fibre core by adding approximately 14 kilometres of access fibre between the core and 11 new Fibre Nodes that are closer to the affected residents. Loop lengths will be reduced to between .8km and 3 km allowing speeds that will meet and/or exceed the funding guidelines of 5/1 Mbps. Construction will commence in May and be completed in September of 2017.

The ACW WIRELESS ULTRA BROADBAND INITIATIVE (blue) is designed to service 150 homes in an area of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh in Ontario, defined as underserved. HuronTel intends to add approximately 12 kilometres of access fibre between its core network and a new 200’ tower that will replace an existing 100’ tower at Zion Road and installing fixed wireless radio with 20 Mbps maximum subscriber download capacity. Homes in Whitechurch will be served with Fibre to the Home as part of this construction. Construction has begun and is expected to be complete in September of 2017.

Updates will be posted as construction progresses over the next few months.
